King’s College London is a public research university located in London, England. King’s was established by royal charter in 1829 under the patronage of King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. King’s is an internationally renowned university delivering exceptional education and world-leading research. We are dedicated to driving positive and sustainable change in society and realising our vision of making the world a better place.

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences led by Professor Seb Ourselin at King’s is part of the UK network of organisations coordinated by Imperial College London and partner of DIH HERO. The School is committed to improve the delivery of healthcare using advanced engineering with a strong focus on imaging techniques to treat and diagnose patients across many disease areas including cancer, neurological and cardiovascular conditions. Embedded within the Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT), the School’s technical departments provide technical expertise in clinical data science and AI, minimally invasive robotic surgery, guided therapies, devices, advanced imaging and novel molecular imaging agents. These technologies are applied through the School clinically led departments in collaboration with the NHS Trusts.

In addition to technology development, King’s and GSTT cultivate a robust translational strategy, with demonstrable impact through early testing in a small subset of patients (first-in-patient trials) and large multi-centre clinical trials. The St Thomas’ MedTech Hub is a mechanism to coordinate activity across organisations and sectors maximising the likelihood of technology to succeed in being adopted and improving healthcare. Our lead NHS Trust is GSTT, however the Hub draws expertise from all Trusts who form part of King’s Health Partners (KHP), our Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC). Experimental capabilities though the Surgical & Interventional Engineering facilities are also available, and over the next two years we will be building additional co-working space for industries through the London Institute of Healthcare Engineering.
