Abstract
A severe problem when starting a transition from lock-down to ”normal life” is the reintroduction of Covid-19 infections. Healthcare and care personnel in hospitals still face exposure to biofilms on objects and viruses whirling in the air (aerosols).
The aim of this proposed project is to decrease the number of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) for personnel, patients and their support. Micro-droplets containing viruses are created while talking, coughing or sneezing. They can spread into air even beyond the 1.5m spatial distance currently recommended, while viral particles can survive in the air up to 3 hours after being suspending into the air. Every year, 8.9 Million cases of HAI are reported in European hospitals. [Source EDCC]
The “SanityAir Viruskiller” air filtering method is a proven technology to filter and kill viruses in the air. SAM is an autonomous mobile surveillance robot developed to patrol large areas such as warehouses, hotels, office spaces, etc. to detect security anomalies. Probiotics cleaning sprays (PCS) are shown to decrease HAI by actively removing biofilms on surfaces and floors. They are shown to achieve sufficient clinical disinfection without creating anti-microbial resistance (AMR).
SAM-Air is an integration of the SanityAir air disinfection capability + Probiotics surface cleaning and the autonomous mobility capability of SAM. SAM-Air is able to constantly patrol areas in hospitals, e.g. waiting rooms for polyclinics, canteens for personnel, patient rooms, corridors, reception areas etc. Its patrolling can be programmed, but it also learns to detect high occupancy areas and perform high frequency disinfection there. UVC, Xenon, Ozone and Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor based disinfection techniques are widely used. They are harmful to humans and can only be used in rooms / areas where humans are not present.
SAM-Air provides an affordable, round the clock disinfection solution that can have a widespread deployment. This provides a reliable and unmanned solution that decreases exposure of healthcare workers, support staff and patients. This can lead to increased feeling of safety, decreasing the emotional stress. This also contributes to decrease the economic impact of HAI treatment
