Abstract

According to the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), 3.8 million people acquire a Hospital-Acquired Infection (HAI) yearly in acute care hospitals in EU countries, resulting in a kill rate of 90.000 people and an economic burden of more than 57B€/year.  Research shows that automated room disinfection using UV-C light reduces HAIs by 40%. We automate room disinfection with our intelligent robot SAM-UVC to make hospital-grade disinfection faster, safer, and digitally auditable. SAM is safe and certified, and several academic hospitals have verified its clinical efficacy in killing microorganisms.  Thanks to SAM-UVC’s user-friendliness and ability to navigate 100% autonomously through rooms, we are causing a breakthrough in automated room disinfection in hospitals. This DV project will help us create awareness among decision-makers at European hospitals to scale internationally and to keep patients in European hospitals safe.
