With DPGR n. 100 of 17 December 2007, the “Maggiore della Carità” hospital of Novara, a public body “of the National Health Service, has assumed the legal status of” University hospital company “.

It is a highly specialized company of national importance, the teaching center of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Eastern Piedmont “Amedeo Avogadro” and has assistance, teaching and research functions.
He carries out assistance activities in ordinary hospitalization, medical-surgical day hospital, rehabilitation, emergency and outpatient.

The Company offers complete health care in all medical and surgical specialties and, in addition to representing the reference hospital in the north-eastern quadrant of the Piedmont region, has a regional and national catchment area for some specialties, falling between the centers of excellence of the Italian healthcare panorama. It is also the head office of the Oncology Center of the provinces of Novara, Vercelli, Verbano-Cusiio-Ossola.

The logo of the hospital is represented by the ancient coat of arms of the “Ospedale Maggiore” whose origins date back to the Middle Ages.
It consists of the representation of the building designed by the architect Gian Francesco Soliva in the seventeenth century, intended for the care of the sick and currently the headquarters of the General Management of the hospital. At the base of the logo, on the right, there is a female figure nursing several children and representing Charity. On the left you can see an ancient sedan that goes to the vault of the hospital. At the top is the coat of arms of the city of Novara while at the base there is a cartouche with the words “hospitalis maioris charitatis civitatis novariae”.

The company provides inpatient and outpatient services and services for the diagnosis and treatment of acute diseases and those requiring urgent interventions. In particular:

1- guarantees, through the 2nd level DEA – First aid, the services and the services of diagnosis and treatment for situations that require urgent and emergency interventions, working in collaboration with the territorial emergency services;

2- provides, in hospitalization, services and performances referring to acute or long-term illnesses, which cannot be addressed in the clinic or at home;

The hospitalization activity can be:

1- ordinary type (traditional hospitalization)              

2- a day cycle (day hospital), that is referring to treatments which, due to their complexity and duration, require the global and interdisciplinary approach offered by the hospital context, and nevertheless are exhausted within the day.

3- in addition to inpatient activities, it provides specialist services in an outpatient form, both as regards the continuity of care for patients already followed in hospitals, and with methods open to the public, through the activation of a Clinic.
