The goal of ROSMON is to demonstrate and commercialize an innovative robotic solution for monitoring patients’ rehabilitation process after total knee/hip arthroplasty by automatically collecting data on the patients’ recovery process during in-patient, out-patient treatments, and at home. The proposed system will use a novel prototype of a mobile therapy robot collecting data on the patients’ gait training during in- and out-patient physiotherapy as well as smartwatches for gathering activity data when the patients are at home.
The mobile robot system of MetraLabs GmbH (ROSMON coordinator) is a prototype of the world’s first robot for mobile gait training, collecting data on the patient during his or her hospital stay and during outpatient rehabilitation. Digiotouch, a ROSMON partner, uses smartwatches collecting patients’ physical activity and health data which are stored and processed in its cloud-based, secure Paradise IoT platform. It implements a secure software development lifecycle and privacy-by-design. The utilization of smartwatches and cloud platforms are novel services in the context of rehabilitation robotics and together they bridge an important gap for those phases where the patients are out of sight of the therapists/physicians, for instance when being at home during the recovery phase.
The novel rehabilitation monitoring system of ROSMON addresses a market potential of 6-7 million patients annually, with an anticipated market size of $7.6 Billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of ~19.8% through the years.
